For best results, make sure that the surfaces to be varnished are sound, clean and dry. It is particularly important that new surfaces are fully dry before treating with Dulux Trade Quick Dry Varnish. Clean off any wax polish, grease or finger marks with white spirit.
- Remove any defective or poorly adhering varnish.
- When applying to previously stained or varnished surfaces, rub down thoroughly along the grain of the wood to provide a ‘key’. Use ‘wet flatting’ methods where possible, then wipe off with a damp, lint free cloth.
- New or bare surfaces must also be rubbed down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper and dusted off (refer to your COSSH Assessment).
Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.
Application
Always follow the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin. Stir thoroughly, it is recommended that a small test area is applied before treating the entire surface to ensure compatibility.
